1# DO I HAVE A RIGHT TO CHANGE MY GP AND IS IT PAID?
Yes. A patient has a right to change their physician. If the change concerns a GP, you can change them thrice during a calendar year with no consequences. Each next change results in a payment of PLN 80.
2# WHY CAN’T I HAVE 2 GPs?
The regulations set out by the National Health Fund (NFZ) do not allow to have two GPs.
3# WHAT TO DO IN A LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION?
In case of a health risk or in a life-threatening situation, immediately call for emergency service at 999 or 112.
4# WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I WANT TO SEE A DOCTOR PAST 6 PM, AT WEEKENDS AND ON HOLIDAYS?
Between 6 PM and 8 AM and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, services are provided in medical centres which have signed a contract with NFZ concerning nightly and holiday health care. You will find an up-to-date list of such medical centres on the NFZ website.
5# HOW TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?
You can make an appointment in person, by phone or online. If you have a high fever or you feel you’re in poor health, come directly to a medical centre! We will help you!
6# HOW TO SUBMIT A DECLARATION?
To submit a declaration, you have to fill in declaration forms (from a physician, a nurse, a midwife) and provide it to a medical centre of your choice. Submitting a declaration in our medical centre results in a loss of physician’s medical care in your previous place of residence. However, if you come back home at weekends and you need medical care there, you can visit a 24-hour care medical centre where a doctor is obliged to help you.
7# IS GP’S APPOINTMENT FREE?
Yes. Free medical care is provided under two conditions: submitting a declaration of the choice of a GP in a medical centre and having health insurance. We encourage you to change your medical centre especially if you?ve moved to other city to study and thus, you are not provided with medical care in a new place. NFZ encourages a change of your medical centre if you?re staying at your new place of residence for more than 3 months.
8# DO I HAVE TO TAKE A CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE WHEN I GO TO A GP?
No. Since 1 January 2013, patients don?t have to take a certificate of insurance every time they go to a GP.
It’s enough to take one of the mentioned documents: an identity card, a passport or a driving license. When you show one of those documents at the registration, in can be electronically verified in the NFZ system if you have insurance.
9# AFTER I CHOOSE A GP, WHAT SERVICES ARE GUARANTEED WITHIN FREE MEDICAL CARE?
Every Student who fills in a declaration and registers in a medical centre, within services financed by NFZ gets a right to:
– Free GP’s appointments
– Free laboratory and diagnostic examinations, such as ultrasonography, ECG and X-ray (carried out at the order of a GP working in a medical centre of your choice)
– Nurses’ and midwifes’ care,
– Outcalls, during hours determined by a medical centre, obligatory vaccinations.
Additionally, when you choose Medycyna Polska Group medical centre you can sign up for
Zdrowia Program you will get a discount for commercial services.
10# WHERE CAN I VERIFY MY INSURANCE’S STATUS?
You can verify your insurance’s status for free by going in person to an NFZ department or a Medycyna Polska Group medical centre reception with your identity card.
To be able to benefit from the NFZ insurance, you have to be subscribed correctly and keep that status in the future.
